At work, we keep quietly chugging along with our pilot project, adding information about New Zealand craft artists to Wikipedia.
The latest step has been to digitise past Dowse catalogues and articles from the Craft Council magazine (with the approval of Creative New Zealand) that relate to the artists for whom we have created or enhanced entries on Wikipedia. We've been assisted in this by Tim Jones from Christchurch Art Gallery, who helped us with the basics of scanning publications (based on their great work) and Digital New Zealand, through whom we're hosting the digitised publications using the Shared Research Repository.
Mackenzie Paton, our Wikipedia researcher, has written about this latest stage of the project (which she has done all the hard yards on) on The Dowse's blog. Small steps towards a better internet for New Zealand's art history.
