When we were married, William and I always looked up to Tim and Sherrah Francis as the couple we wanted to grow old like. When we visited their home and undertook the slow circuit of the overflowing walls, I'd think This is how I want to be. It wasn't just the amazing art: it was the modesty and the affection with which Tim and Sherrah treated their collection; their intent engagement with every work that crossed their path; the way their interests kept growing and expanding even as physically they became more frail.
Tim died this week. Jim and Mary Barr have written a lovely piece on him - and on Sherrah too, as they are almost unimaginable apart.
